Baycox® Bovis in Cattle
Bovine coccidiosis occurs wherever cattle are raised. Bovine coccidiosis has its greatest impact on calves less than a year old, causing severe damage to the intestinal tract. It is associated with diarrhoea of varying degrees of severity, secondary infections and even mortality.
Some reports document animals that survive severe infections, including bloody diarrhoea, may weigh on average 22 to 27 kg less than uninfected animals even one year post infection. Reproductive and milk yield performance at an adult age can also be affected.
But these clinical cases are just the tip of the iceberg. Mild cases of coccidiosis may not be associated with clinical symptoms or mortality, may however lead to poor condition and retarded growth and thus seriously erode the economic results of cattle producers.
It was suggested by Fitzgerald in 1980 that coccidia infections in cattle and buffaloes cost approximately US$ 700 million annually worldwide; an amount that may have be increased to correspond to present day values.
Bovine coccidiosis has often been overlooked because it is difficult to diagnose (confused with other diarrhoeic problems), treatment schedules are difficult to define, and there has been a lack of a demonstrably effective treatment.
Drawing on Bayer more than 30 years of experience in controlling coccidiosis developed Baycox® Bovis, a one-shot ready-to-use oral suspension especially formulated for calves.
Baycox® acts against all intracellular stages of the parasite, providing an effective, rapid and timely treatment against the coccidia species that affect cattle.
The use of Baycox® in clinical studies and in practice has been found to yield excellent results.
