A parasite is an organism that uses another organism - its host - for reproduction, alimentation or simply shelter. Parasites do not benefit their hosts – as opposed to symbionts where’s a benefit for both partners. Parasites affect their hosts and are responsible for a lot of diseases. There are parasites among plants and animals.
Examples of parasites are lice, intestinal worms, or coccidia.
